Velvet Taupe Lips

Mac Lipsticks are loved by nearly every make-up lover I know. When the famously sought-after 'Velvet Teddy' shade came back in stock, I didn't hesitate for a second to purchase one!

Pictured below, the shade 'Taupe' is on the left, and 'Velvet Teddy' is on the right. Both can be worn for any occasion and for any time of day - and both shades look great with the majority of outfit colours!

I team Mac's 'Spicelip liner with both lipsticks and the colours complement one another really well.

Excitement to the Maxx

I absolutely love walking around shop aisles, perusing all the wonderful things for sale. The best shops however are shops that sell one-off items that can't be found anywhere else.

Camden, a borough of London, is the perfect place if you're not looking for something in particular. Rather, it provides one of the greatest days out with an array of quirky, cool and crazy shops selling the most random of things! I first went with my best friend, who is probably the coolest person, and if she likes something, then that something must be great. I'll save the trip to Camden for another post, but TK Maxx is a store which is convenient to get to for most of us living within close proximity to a local shopping centre - and it sells the snazziest things.

I always ignore the endless rails of clothing items sprawled across most of the shop floor and head straight for the photo frames, mirrors and candles - general home decor stuff! Also, who doesn't love a candle? I bought a big doughnut-scented candle (the size of my head) and it was only £4.99?! I love Yankee candles but feel a bit queasy at the thought of spending well over £10 on something that I can't wear...I love clothes by the way.

I urge anyone to spend some time walking around TK Maxx. And I dare you all to not have an overwhelming desire to completely redecorate your entire house with new items!

I stumbled across photo frame...after photo frame...after another photo frame...and left with them all; I decided they were far too beautiful to leave behind.

'A Little Black Dress for Lashes'

After becoming aware that Kendall Jenner is the face of Estee Lauder's new eyelash primer, I decided that I needed this primer - even though my trusty mac mascara gives me great results.

(I saw Cady Heron wearing army pants and flip flops...so I bought army pants and flip flops)

Estee Lauder is a beautiful brand with lovely products and renowned for great quality. I was expecting the primer itself to be a little overpriced but at £20, I figured it wasn't too expensive so purchased it from a Boots store. It makes sense to 'prep' the eyelashes because prior to applying foundation, primer always makes the skin look a lot smoother and almost allows you to begin working on a clear, blank canvas to ensure the skin doesn't look too dry, nor too oily. I use The Body Shop's Vitamin C Skin Reviver for this.

The Perfect Chill

If there's one thing I can't live without, it's music. I love discovering new music and love it even more when people recommend new bands and singers!

If I'm not at university, I'm at work. If I'm not at uni or work, I'm applying to work experience placements. Sometimes I'll be ordering clothes online (sometimes...*most of the time). I might be taking photographs to blog about...may be writing about something unnecessarily, just for fun.

And if I'm not doing any of the above, you'll find me alone, with my earphones in, listening to music or engrossed in a really great book. I'll save the book haul for another day, but for now I give you a compilation of songs that'll make you the most relaxed you've ever been.

Sometimes listening to music is all you need to cheer you up and chill you out.

Ben Taylor - I Try

Paolo Nutini - No Other Way
Paolo Nutini - Tricks of the Trade

My 20th Year

This entire post may sound a bit odd coming from someone who's 20! As you get older, insignificant things (which were once regarded by 15 year old me as of paramount concern) become less relevant and you start to realise what's more important. I've learnt a lot, for which I'm very grateful! It's crazy to think how much we change as people as we get older. I still have a lot to learn but I'm more content than I have ever been.

Spend a little less time criticising, and a little more time focusing on yourself and all the wonderful things you already have in your life. More often than not, people waste so much time focusing on all the things they don't have, the negative, and the bad. Sometimes it does feel like everything is going wrong and nothing is going to plan but nearly everything that happens, happens for a reason. If you feel disheartened about certain aspects of your life, you have the ability to change anything. Admittedly, I always think about the future as opposed to the here and now. Knowing I'm going to have to work hard to be where I want to be is a thought that plays on my mind nearly every minute of every day. I have all these vivid ideas in my mind about future relationships and thoughts about travelling; where I'll be living, where I want to be living; what career I'll have, what career I want - escapist thoughts!

Happy Healthy Hair

Endlessly posting about: make-up, ways in which we can keep our skin looking good and our outfits looking stylish - we tend to forget the importance of healthy and happy hair! I'm very lucky to have manageable hair but that doesn't mean it's always in excellent condition. I always take extra special care of my hair in terms of nourishment because neglecting hair can have devastating consequences on its quality in the long run.

Polagram

If you're really lazy when it comes to printing photos off like me, then Polagram can help! I'm very keen and snap-happy when it comes to taking photos but not so eager when it comes to printing them. I rely far too much on memory sticks even though there is no guarantee that the storage device will last forever! Unfortunately, I've been unlucky enough to have lost so many images after a USB device malfunctioned and after numerous attempts to save lost files I've finally accepted that they're gone. Lost forever...
I came across a few photography printing apps and Polagram seemed like the best bet. It prints photos straight from your phone and they're delivered almost instantly. I was quite apprehensive about the quality of printing due to the fact I wasn't charged a lot per photo but they arrived in perfect condition and the quality of the photo paper and the image is absolutely amazing.

Etsy Elation

This is just a quick post to show you a beautiful ring I found on the website for all things lovely, Etsy
I really wanted a new ring so turned to Etsy for help. Most of the jewellery found on the website is shipped from places like Canada; having had bought some engraved leather bracelets from a company selling on Etsy before, and feeling elated with the products, I had no doubts that I wouldn't be as equally as happy with other items.
This ring was made by a seller called Littlestgem and I will definitely be buying the pearl version in the near future!

(For measurements, I am a size 52 (16.6mm) in UK Pandora sizes and ordered size 6.25 in American sizing - it fits perfectly on my middle finger and index finger, although a little loose on my ring finger.)
For measuring, click ring sizes
If you have a Pandora ring that fits, compare to check by clicking Pandora sizing
Any problems with measurements, leave a message and I'll attempt to help.

Nude Nails

After spending so many months trying to find the perfect nude nail varnish, I gave up my search and settled for OPI's Samoan Sands. In Cancun's duty free airport, I jumped at the chance to save a little money on the beauty industry's trusted brand that is OPI - recognisedly used in most professional beauticians. This individual shade is beautiful but was a little on the 'pink' side as opposed to a more neutral tone, nonetheless I continued to use it!

January Favourites

Rose Hemp Hand Cream
I love Body Shop branded products, the body butters are the greatest scented lotions and the hand creams are amazing too!
I was given Wild Rose Hand Cream for Christmas and it leaves my hands feeling smooth and hydrated. It's small enough to keep in a bag on the go and unsurprisingly, it smells great.
You're not left with greasy hands after application and I'm 100% certain it strengthens the nails too!

Marc Jacob's Daisy Dream Perfume
For Christmas, I was given loads of mini perfumes because I tend to spritz a variety on each day which means when someone asks what I'm wearing, I have to reply with a long list: "it could be Daisy...mixed with a little vanilla...and some of my mum's Chanel...and possibly a bit of a sample perfume whose name I've forgotten...". It's never too much or overpowering though, most of them work quite well together!

Marc Jacobs perfumes are very popular (I love the bottles more than the scents) and Daisy Dream is equally as lovely as the original Daisy and Daisy Fresh.
Benefit's Benetint
My mum has always loved a lip and cheek stain and prior to benetint, we used the Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain, which is around £10. Benetint is a little more expensive but I wanted to see if there was any significant difference. Both products are very similar and so if you're looking to save money where you can - the Body Shop is a good brand to try. I don't use this everyday but if I have more time to get ready and if I'm going out, I'll brush this lightly over my lips and blend it in. This looks great on its own, so lipstick is not required.

Bobbi Brown's Bronzer in Natural
I have mentioned this bronzer in a previous post but to elaborate, the colour is ideal for use with Mac's C3 and C4 Face and Body foundation. I tend to brush it over the top of my forehead and around the outer sides of my face, as advised by a Bobbi Brown make-up artist. There's nothing more annoying than applying foundation and a lighter coloured neck - so I brush this lightly over my neck with a large powder brush.

Mac's SPICE Lip Liner Pencil
This lip liner works exceptionally well with Mac's lipsticks Velvet Teddy and Taupe, which are two of my absolute favourite lip colours. Any lighter nude lip colours than the two previously mentioned would probably work better with a lighter lip liner.

Benefit's Hoola Bronzer
Bronzer was never something I had in my collection of make-up, but since the rise of celebrities and their 'contouring' techniques I thought I'd see how it works! This bronzer is one of the most loved and most used products with great reviews plastered all over the internet - and they're not wrong. The soft bronze powder when brushed over your complexion leaves a healthy looking glow to the skin; the natural bristled brush is a great application too, which is included in the product! I tend to apply it to my cheeks as opposed to my entire face (which you are able to do) in the hope that it contours my cheekbones! It can also be applied to contour the jaw line and down the centre of the nose and it's not overpowering in colour whatsoever.

Vaseline Cocoa Radiant Moisturiser
Out of all the products, Vaseline's cocoa radiant moisturiser is the cheapest but by no means is it of lesser importance! Vaseline is a trusted brand (who doesn't carry a mini pot of vaseline for their lips in their bag?) and so I had no doubts about the effectiveness of this lotion.
In a world of over-priced moisturisers, this simple bottle can be found at most supermarkets and for under £3, you can't go wrong. The cocoa radiant lotion penetrates skin deeply and fulfils its job of smoothing away any roughness and lessening the appearance of dark spots, so skin is left glowing!
Most moisturisers work by sitting on top of the skin, often leaving a dewey, sticky feeling, whilst others sink quickly into the skin which means the skin is not thoroughly moisturised. Vaseline's moisturiser is different. The stratys-3 innovation is entirely different - with three different components (it's very science-y so I won't bore you with it) which essentially mean the top, middle and lower layers of skin are being moisturised effectively and properly. It infuses more moisture over all layers of skin!

Uova al tegamino con pomodori! (Or, fried eggs with tomatoes!)

Growing up, tomatoes have been a staple part of my diet; on my mum's side sits a big Italian family so my love for food has never (and should never) be questioned. This recipe is very easy and I have avoided a step-by-step guide due to the fact it doesn't take a tremendous amount of concentration to recreate! Put simply, all the ingredients cook from one pan and, if you're feeling super lazy, you could even eat it from the same pan. However, this is a perfect dish to share between two, but for the Joey's out there, it's perfectly normal to make this just for yourself. I stumbled across this recipe whilst browsing the Londoner's blog which is a favourite of mine - Millie Mackintosh is a fan also!

This has been made using a Le Creuset pan which cooks food more effectively!

You will need (feeds 2 to 3, depending on how hungry you are!)
  • 2x can of tinned tomatoes - (Napolina and Cirio are always in our cupboards)
  • 4x strips of bacon
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and chilli flakes (to season)
  • 4x medium eggs
  • Ciabatta bread

Instructions:

  1. In a pan, fry some bacon with olive oil - fry until cooked
  2. Add the tinned tomatoes to the same pan and simmer slowly for about 5 minutes
  3. Add the four eggs
  4. Place a lid over the entire pan leaving no gaps for air to escape
  5. Keep checking until the eggs are cooked (until the yolk has turned white)
  6. Turn off the heat, leave to simmer for about 2 minutes
  7. Sprinkle chilli flakes and salt to season

Ciabatta bread is perfect for dipping! Enjoy!
This is a perfect meal for those who attempt to spend little on their food shop i.e. uni students!

Book Review | Paulo Coelho - The Alchemist

What do I spy...a book out of place? OR is it a book that's so incredibly moving I arranged it to sit diagonally on the end solely to illustrate the fact the book itself stands out from the rest with its unique meaning, its moving story and its truly wonderful morals *and breathe*?

Written by a tremendously talented author, The Alchemist tells a tale of an Andalusian shepherd who travels from Spain, his homeland, to the Egyptian desert in search of treasure. Santiago, the shepherd, passes many characters during his travels all of whom point him in the direction of his quest. The novel itself is a fairly easy read and doesn't require intense concentration as such. Quite simply, the story is a testament to the important of listening to our hearts and essentially following our dreams, despite obstacles we may come across along the way.
The book has been translated into many different languages due to its great success and is a favourite among many celebrities!

Chef and Brewer, Shawford

Yesterday, I drove myself and one of my best friends for lunch at Chef and Brewer located in Shawford; a beautiful pub situated directly opposite Shawford's train station. Shawford is a great place to be during the summer but it's even lovelier mid January when you can go for a walk along the river and take loads of bobble-hat selfies!

Sweet potato, red pepper, soya bean and mozzarella burger with a nut & basil crumb. Served in a toasted brioche bun with chips, onion rings and barbecue & ale sauce.

Having had the Sweet Potato and Mozzarella Burger previously, I decided to order it once more because it's quite honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten (ever). Sweet potato is my favourite so I chose to have a sweet potato burger...and sweet potato fries. Pity they don't make sweet potato onion rings because I would have probably ordered them too (and I wish I was joking but...I'm not).

Bobbi Brown

I've never been an avid make-up user and it's not exactly a passion of mine, but recently I've become quite excited at the prospect of purchasing new products. The Urban Decay palette is a popular favourite with many and after many Instagram posts of the product itself I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. However, scouring the Bobbi Brown counter in a local John Lewis I quickly fell in love with the Warm Eye Palette.
I'm not an expert when it comes to make-up, but learning to create new looks is a lot of fun!
I am keen to watch youtube tutorials and have promised myself that I'll learn how to apply make-up effectively and properly in the future but for now, I plan to review the remaining two products shown in the following photos.

Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation, unfortunately, proved to be very drying on my skin. I had to return this and purchased Mac Face and Body foundation - a foundation I've been using for a few years! Mac foundation, particularly the Face and Body does not dry out the skin, leave a heavy film over the face nor does it make the skin look greasy.  In the past, I've used an array of brands but I have never been as happy with a foundation, its shade and its texture, as I am with my Mac C3. I tend to opt for a lighter shade as opposed to finding one that matches my exact skin colour  because I find a lighter shade brightens up the complexion, which in turn makes the skin look a little healthier.

The Bobbi Brown bronzing powder was an impulse buy and sits on the skin very nicely. As well as applying bronzer on the face, brushing the product over the neck avoids the risk of both the neck and face looking a little different in colour.

The photo below illustrates two things, one being a misuse of glitter eye shadow and the other a terribly messy eyebrow. I decided to leave my eyebrows alone in the hope that they would grow out; this would mean I'd have to spend less money having them tended to every few weeks!

'Too much shopping?' I have no idea what you're talking about...

It has been such a long time since I last updated this blog - I had saved a few draft posts but didn't feel that they were worthy of publication, so for this I apologise (to my millions of fans out there who read this blog) (...completely joking).
I turned 20 on the 12th December and officially joined the gran clan. The clan of grans and grandmas. The only bad thing about turning 20 is the fact that:
1. I am no longer a teenager
2. There's a big 2 at the front of the number

I'll use the excuse of turning 20 to explain where I have been for the last few weeks. My explanation being is that...I have been mourning. Mourning over the loss of my youth. The only thing that could truly cheer me up would be Christmas and buying nice new clothes. Both of which happened during my absence!

Zara is my absolute favourite shop, yet I hadn't been aware of the amazing-ness that is Mango. After seeing an advertisement on Facebook illustrating the Mango sale (THE LAPTOP MADE ME DO IT) I decided that Mango too sells the most beautiful clothes. Also, I love mango fruit so my love for the shop was surely inevitable...?

I'm a lover of nudes, browns, blacks, camels (the clothing not the species...hahaha...ha) beiges, golds, oranges and deep reds. Topshop is great with keeping on top of trends and I've bought several A-line skirts which look great on, and eliminate the need to 'eat light' before a night out, or during a night out due to the fact they're not bodycon. Which, if you're me, is a dream come true.

The skirt shown in the far right photo is still available to buy, and here are a few others I love, all from Topshop!
